Bump & Milk maternity and breastfeeding wear is highly fashionable, suitable for pregnancy and has secret easy-access breast-feeding features. These dresses are exactly what all our lovely Mums and Mums-to-be need in this hot weather!
We love to support female-led businesses and Bump & Milk is no exception. We asked founder Alex Goyal about her journey in creating this innovative and much-needed brand. Like many of us, she wanted a business that she could work on flexibly around her children but her brilliant idea really came from a 'lightbulb' moment
"I was breastfeeding my first son for 2.5 years and had “nothing to wear" that entire time! He was born when I was 27 years old and I found all the maternity clothes were either low quality or the designs didn’t appeal to me. The maternity clothing out there also lacked breastfeeding options. I couldn’t understand why mothers-to-be and new mothers couldn't wear high quality clothing that could be both stylish and practical. Just before my second son was born, I realised I’m about to enter another “nothing to wear” period for at least another 2.5 years and this was my ‘lightbulb’ moment!"
Of course sustainability is a huge consideration in the creation of the brand but we wanted to know why it is so important to Alex to support breastfeeding mothers in particular?
"Breastfeeding is like having a full-time job that is unpaid, undervalued, and unappreciated. The breastfeeding health benefits for mothers and babies are mind-blowing - and it's something everyone should be aware of. I believe that it's a missing part in our educational and healthcare system. Overall, breastfeeding is an important public health intervention that has numerous short and long-term benefits, prevents diseases, and helps contribute to reducing healthcare costs and inequalities. Breastfeeding mamas make a collective impact and they ought to be supported."
