Kira West x Blue Almonds Blog Series: First Trimester Reflections
Chapter Two: First Trimester Reflections with Kira West – Navigating the Unknown with Grace
In our ongoing series following wellness creator Kira West through her pregnancy journey, we gently step into the first trimester — a time filled with new beginnings, unexpected challenges, and quiet strength.
Pregnancy often begins before the test turns positive — in the months (or years) of preparation, hope, and self-care. For Kira, a deep connection to her body, an intentional mindset, and the power of wellness rituals helped lay the foundation for a journey she now describes as both humbling and deeply human.
The Early Days: Embracing Gratitude Through Uncertainty
Even as the physical toll of early pregnancy set in — nausea, fatigue, and overwhelming food aversions — Kira’s grounding force was simple but powerful: gratitude.
“Overall I’m grateful, and that’s what I cling to when I get anxious about unknowns or when I’m not feeling well.”
That grace became her anchor, especially when her days were filled not with glowing anticipation, but crackers, fruit, and hours spent lying down.
She candidly shared how night-time nausea, extreme exhaustion, and bloating became constant companions. On some days, the simple task of staying awake from morning to night felt nearly impossible.
And perhaps most relatable of all? The disconnection from food.
“I didn’t want to eat meat, vegetables or any of the foods I’d typically enjoy. I didn’t have energy to cook, which used to bring me joy.”
For a wellness enthusiast used to nourishing meals and active routines, this shift felt disorienting — but it also became a lesson in listening, softness, and letting go of expectations.

Wellness as Survival, Not Performance
Rather than pushing through, Kira redefined wellness in her first trimester as meeting herself exactly where she was.
“Sleep has been critical — it’s when your body repairs itself, and you’re also building a human.”
Sleep, journaling, and gentle routines became her toolkit. She leaned into The Five Minute Journal, using it to create small but meaningful moments of clarity.
And in a beautiful twist of modern motherhood, she even turned to AI — using ChatGPT to help her write positive future stories about her pregnancy.
“It helped me visualize the future rather than fall into fear.”
When food became difficult, she focused not on perfection, but on compassionate consistency: prenatal vitamins, a few bites of protein here and there, and simply doing her best.
Redefining Productivity & Rest
Kira, known for her dynamic travel and content creation, made a bold choice during her first trimester: to slow down entirely.
“I spent almost all of the first trimester — minus one trip — at home, in bed, or on the couch.”
She postponed major travels until her second trimester and made rest, not hustle, her highest priority. That also meant asking for help — from her husband, from her team, and even hiring additional support where needed.
“My goal was just getting through the day — and sometimes, that was really all I could do.”
Creativity didn’t disappear; it simply arrived in waves. She learned to batch content creation on her “good” days, and to give herself full permission to rest on the others.
Final Thoughts from Kira: Grace Over Expectation
As Kira puts it so simply and beautifully:
“Each day was different. I did what I could.”
And maybe that’s the most honest, tender portrait of early pregnancy: a time when strength looks like softness, and doing your best means honoring your limits, not pushing past them.
