Design Diaries: The Final Reveal – A Joyful, Functional Toddler Room with Joanna Landais

The journey from a serene nursery to a vibrant, playful toddler room has been one filled with thought, creativity, and heart. Now, we’re thrilled to reveal the final stage of our collaboration with interior designer Joanna Landais — a beautifully designed toddler room that’s full of charm, functionality, and personal touches.

This space is more than a room — it’s a stage for imagination, movement, and growth.

Play Meets Purpose: The Star of the Show

For Joanna, one standout feature captures the spirit of the room perfectly:

“Without a doubt, the slide is my absolute favourite feature. The slide, which can also transform into a climbing feature, is a brilliant addition too. Ready-made slides are great but often challenging for parents to store. This one by Sebra is not only functional, but also stylish. It truly is my favourite element.”

The multi-functional slide/climber is a clever addition that encourages movement and active play, without compromising the room’s design aesthetic. It sits proudly in the space — not as a bulky afterthought, but as a considered centrepiece that’s both practical and fun.

Dramatic Change Through Thoughtful Details

Beyond the big pieces, Joanna believes it’s the smaller, intentional elements that bring the room to life.

“I enjoy demonstrating how accessorising a room can lead to dramatic transformations. That aspect of the design challenge is ALWAYS the most fulfilling part for me,” she shares.

And in this room, those finishing touches make all the difference. Oversized patterned cushions, educational wall prints, vibrant book displays, and textured throws layer personality into the space, giving it that “lived-in but lovely” feeling that defines great design.

Cohesive, Yet Playfully Mature

The toddler room retains echoes of the nursery — a calming colour palette, heirloom furniture, and handcrafted touches — but everything has evolved. Pattern sizes are scaled up. Textures are richer. There’s a sense of independence and interactivity woven throughout the room.

Storage is smartly integrated, the reading corner invites quiet moments, and the entire room is built to grow with the child. It’s a space for both downtime and discovery.
