Pregnancy Diary: Third Trimester Wellness

Third Trimester Wellness & Coping with Change: Kira West’s Journey

As Kira West reaches the final stretch of her pregnancy, she opens up about the physical and emotional realities of the third trimester. From disrupted sleep to managing fatigue, she’s honest about the challenges — but also about the rituals and routines that help her stay grounded as she prepares to welcome her baby.

The Physical Realities of the Third Trimester

“Physically, sleeping has been a challenge and finding new limitations as my body and baby grow. I’m back to being tired and the changing temperatures — especially the heat — have been tough.”
Some of the small things that made a big difference for her:

  • Portable air conditioning unit for the bedroom (“AMAZING”).
  • Sleeping with an eye mask, which has been surprisingly helpful. This mask from Soma Sleep has been a game changer.

Finding Comfort & Coping with Stress

“When I feel discomfort, I remind myself that my body is made for this, it’s all temporary, and soon we get to meet our baby.”

Practical supports have also been important:

  • Regular osteopath visits to help with hip and back pain.
  • Foam rolling to ease muscle tightness.
  • Pelvic floor and pregnancy-safe mobility exercises to support her changing body. The third trimester is a great time to meet with a Pelvic Floor Physio like my personal favorite Karina Murphy (who does offer house calls in some areas) to establish a baseline before birth. This will be the same person to support you with a check about 6-8 weeks postpartum.

The Emotional Rollercoaster

“When our son is born our lives are going to change forever and we know it’s coming, but not exactly when or how it’ll happen. Hoping for the best while preparing for the worst is a wild ride — but it’s beautiful.”

Acknowledging the mix of excitement and nerves, Kira embraces both sides of the journey with honesty and grace.

Wellness Rituals That Keep Her Grounded

Kira has leaned into non-negotiable rituals that support her physically and mentally:

  • Osteopath visits at Balanced Osteopathy
  • Physical Therapy with a focus on Pelvic Floor with Karina Murphy
  • Prenatal massages
  • Prenatal Pilates
  • Prioritising rest and boundaries (being realistic about limits)
  • Sleep — as much as possible
