Design Diaries: Creating the Perfect Nursery – Stage One of Our Blue Almonds x Joanna Landais Collaboration 


As part of our exciting design journey with a leading Children’s interior designer Joanna Landais, we’re delighted to share the first stage of our two-room transformation: the nursery.

At Blue Almonds, we know that the nursery is more than just a room—it’s the heart of those early years, a space where love, bonding, and precious memories begin. With that in mind, our collaboration focuses on creating a nursery that balances beauty, practicality, and imagination.

Building a Nursery That Grows With Your Baby

When designing a nursery, longevity is key. As our Joanna puts it:
 

“When it comes to selecting nursery furniture, you want pieces that are more than just stylish; they should stand the test of time!”

That’s why we started with the essentials—elegant, well-crafted furniture that can evolve as your child grows. From cot beds to classic changing tables and soft décor to create a dreamy and nurturing environment, each piece is thoughtfully chosen for both form and function.

Start With a Colour You Love

Choosing a colour palette can feel daunting, but it all begins with one tone you truly adore. In this nursery, our designer chose a soothing blue—not only a nod to Blue Almonds’ signature shade, but a colour known for its calming, peaceful qualities.

“Start with the colour you adore—perhaps a soothing shade of blue that’s both functional and calming—and don’t be afraid of the colour itself,” the Joanna shares.

Whether it’s powdery blue, soft sky, or a muted duck-egg, the trick is to allow this hue to lead your design decisions, without overwhelming the space.

A Cohesive, Thoughtful Space

According to Joanna, the key to creating a cohesive nursery is consistency in theme,  texture or colour:

“My top tip in achieving a beautifully cohesive nursery would be to always look for a common theme. When accessorising the room, include touches of that theme in every element. Whether it's on the wallpaper, textiles, or little details like picture frames or artwork—stick with that as your leading idea.”

And if colour isn’t your thing? No problem. The same rule applies with other themes. Love natural materials? Opt for consistent wooden finishes. Want a soft, cocooning vibe? Go for fluffy textures like sheepskin rugs, cloud-like mobiles, and plush toys.

The Details Make the Difference

In this nursery, we’re weaving that central blue colour through carefully curated accessories—from wall art and cushions to bedding and storage baskets. These small touches help the room feel complete, without being overly styled.

The result? A nursery that feels intentionally designed, but still warm, welcoming, and deeply personal.
