5 Nursery Essentials for your Newborn Baby

Our resident Mummy Concierge Tiffany Norris offers her advice on the things she always recommends buying for a newborn

Planning for a newborn can be an intimidating time. What products do you really need? And what can you cross off your ‘must have’ list? Tiffany Norris, Aka The Mummy Concierge, shares her top tips

The nursery must-haves

WHAT: A Moses basket

WHY: Your newborn will likely sleep in your bedroom with you for the first 6 months so it’s handy to have a place where they can sleep that is compact and easy to move. The thing I love about Moses baskets is that they don’t take up much space, and they can also be easily moved from room to room in your house. So if your baby is sleeping and you want to head downstairs to get a cup of tea from the kitchen, you can pick up the moses basket and move it downstairs without disturbing your little one

WHAT: A Changing table

WHY: Its handy to have everything in one place – from nappies to baby wipes. So investing in a beautiful changing table is something I recommend to all of my clients. Try and buy one that has sides so that your baby can't topple off, and consider drawers underneath where you can store all of the baby changing essentials.

WHAT: A cotbed that can transition with your baby

WHY: When you buy a cot, you want to make sure it lasts for as long as possible. Which is why I always recommnend buying a cot bed which can grow with your baby. So as they grow the bed grows with them, turning from a cot into a toddler bed.

WHAT: Muslin Cloths

WHY? You can never have too many muslins. Whether it’s to swaddle your baby in at night (you can now buy extra large muslins/swaddles for this exact purpose), wipe away baby dribble or use as a breastfeeding shawl, muslins have multiple uses. My top tip? Get as many as you can - you will never regret buying too many muslins.

WHAT: Newborn Hooded towel

WHY: Getting out of a nice warm bath can be stressful for a little one, so wrapping them up in a hooded towel is my number one recommendation. Not only do they look gorgeous (Bear ears anyone?) but it’s also a great way to keep them warm and snuggly just before bedtime.
